5 Rowers Attend ID Camp in Washington D.C. March 7, 2010
PDF Print E-mail

Five Mile High Rowers attend the ID Camp for the Junior Women's National Team on Sunday March 7, 2010.

This day long camp is a stepping stone to being invited to attend the Junior National Team Selection Camp or the Development Camp.   The rowers are first tested in the morning on an indoor machine doing a 2,000m test.  If they do well enough, they are placed in boats which then go on the water.  All five of our rowers got to go for an afternoon row.  There are numerous camps throughout the country.  Sometime in April, the list of those who have made the next cut off will be posted on the US Rowing website.  In addition those rowers will receive an individual invitation.  Four of our rowers posted personal bests this past Sunday.  Well done Maddie Lips, Jordan Harshman, Alana Bobka, Kathleen Koenigs, and Amelia Brunner!

Mile High Rower, Andrew Sweeney is headed to one of the Junior Men's National Team ID Camp on March 20th!  Best of luck Andrew!

We are a Denver Area Rowing Club for High School Students.  Mile High Rowing Club was started on February 20, 2009!

Two of our Senior Girls, Maddie Lips and McLane Ritzel have signed on to row with Yale!   We are very proud of them!

We have rowers from Cherry Creek High School, Regis Jesuit, Colorado Academy, Highlands Ranch, Chaparral, Kent, St Mary's, George Washington, Cherokee Trail and Douglas County.  Rowing has become a poplular sport and many colleges have excellent rowing opportunities.

We have a great coaching staff headed by Grace Malacrida who has over 20 years experience rowing and coaching, and is US Rowing Level III Certified Coach.  Our other coaches include Kati O'Hara (Level II), Anne Strobridge (Level II), Nikki Stob (Level II), Anthony Malacrida (Level I), Bob Malacrida (Level II) and Stephanie Chang (Level II)  Among us, we are former college rowers from Rutgers University, Kansas University, Colorado University, and  University of Iowa.  Rowing is our passion and we want to share that with you!

In the winter we train indoors on Concept II ergometer machines.   In the spring and fall we row on Cherry Creek Reservoir.

We offer some special learn to row and other programs in the summer. Be sure to log on for updates on those programs.

No experience is necessary. If you are a high school student or you know one interested in trying this exciting sport, contact us..
